The Dark Knight

I have already been a tad giddy when it comes to the release of The Dark Knight.  The previews have been amazing and I’m a fan of the series in general (especially Batman Begins).  You can imagine my enthusiasm when I hear from multiple sources that after the premier last night it is being called “the greatest superhero movie of all time.”  I know titles like that get thrown around here and there, but in this case we aren’t talking about just the modern generation but also referring to the original Superman movies, etc.  I don’t take it lightly, and I’ll have to see it for myself, but here are a few quotes to get you going before you see The Dark Knight:

“Heath Ledger’s performance is one of the greatest ever captured on film.  I’m not kidding… More evil than Darth Vader.  Amazing.  Absurd.” — Jason Calacanis

If “The Dark Knight” is about anything, it’s about civic catastrophe and the fragility of our institutions in the face of blind, consuming evil. The evil is the Joker, and no one knows what to do about him - not the good guys, like Batman (Christian Bale) or the new district attorney, Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), and not even the bad guys, like the mob boss played by Eric Roberts. The Joker doesn’t play by the usual rules, because he isn’t motivated by self-interest. In the words of Alfred the Butler (Michael Caine), he “just wants to see the world burn.”" — Mick LaSalle
